We are a week into the fall softball season and Class B seems as competitive as it’s ever been. Last year’s champion, Omaha Skutt Catholic is off to a slow start this season after losing a lot of talent to graduation. That has opened the door for some other teams to step up. Wahoo and Scottsbluff, both state qualifiers last year, currently sit atop our initial Class B Power Rankings.
One surprise in our rankings might be the Omaha Mercy Monarchs led by first-year coach Maren Angus-Coombs. The four-team co-op includes Brownell-Talbot, Concordia, and Omaha Christian. Currently, Mercy is 3-0 with a big test against Papillion-LaVista South coming up next week.
These rankings are based on a computer formula and are determined by wins, losses, and the strength of the opponent. The margin of victory doesn’t matter. You’ll see movement from week to week in the numbers and teams can, and will, move up and down during the short high school season.
If you feel like your team is ranked too high or low, feel free to express yourself in the comments below. Just be courteous and polite.
