Class A continues to be wide open. It feels like any team could get hot at the right time and take home the championship. That makes the rankings that much harder. Gretna (10-0) remains in the top spot as the only undefeated team in class A. The Dragons continue to win with pitching and defense. Their average margin of victory is 4.5 runs, but that includes a 12-2 win against Westside. Gretna has won five games decided by three runs or less.
Millard North (11-1) stays in the number 2 spot this week. The Mustangs got an emotional win last Thursday against Lincoln Southwest and their only loss is to 3rd-ranked Marian. Marian (7-1) lost the extra-inning game to Gretna on opening night and hasn’t lost since. Less than 40 points separate the Mustangs and Crusaders so they are neck-and-neck. At this point, Millard North is getting a slight bump due to more games played. Expect these two teams to continue to battle it out. They are scheduled to play on Sept 6th at Millard North.
Millard South (7-4) finds themselves moving up from 15th to 7th this week. The Patriots have won 5 of their last 6 games with the only loss coming to Gretna. It feels like they have finally gotten their bats going this fall.
Reminder, these rankings are based on a computer formula. This isn’t a coaches poll or Prepfastpitch.com staff vote. We plug in the game scores and the computer figures out the rankings. We don’t do any adjustments for the margin of victory. Winning against better teams helps you the most and losing against worse teams hurts you the most. Over time, the best start to rise to the top.
