Class A might be more wide open this year than it has been in quite a while. Several teams graduated arguably some of the best players in the state. While other teams have the next great class of Nebraska softball athletes coming up. Defending champion Lincoln Southwest is always a favorite, but the Silverhawks have a new head coach this year and are off to a 3-2 start. Meanwhile, Gretna is off to a hot 7-0 start, including a thrilling 2-1 opening night win over Marian. Putting them at the top of our initial Class A power rankings.
These rankings are based on a computer formula and are determined by wins, losses, and the quality of the opponent played. We don’t use a margin of victory component so winning, or losing, by a lot doesn’t matter. Teams will move up and down the poll as more games are played. Get hot and watch your team move up. Drop a few games in a row and you’ll see them start to fall.
If you feel like your team is ranked too low or high, feel free to let us know in the comments below. Just be courteous and civil.
